Monty – Young Wire-Haired Lurcher Looking for His Forever Home

Monty is a 14-month-old wire-haired Lurcher, around the size of a Whippet, who is looking for an active and loving forever home. He came into our care as his owner sadly fell ill and could no longer look after him.

About Monty

Monty is a lovely young dog who is full of energy and enthusiasm for life. At just over a year old, he is still very much a puppy at heart and can be quite a giddy, excitable boy. He loves his food and treats, which will be a great help with ongoing training and building positive experiences.

He is still learning about the world around him and does not show much interest in toys at the moment, preferring instead to focus on people, movement and food rewards.

Training & Behaviour

Monty does pull on the lead and will need ongoing training, patience and consistency from his new owners. He is still learning good manners and will benefit from structured walks and continued positive reinforcement training to help him develop into a well-balanced adult dog.

He does have good recall in familiar environments, however we must stress that he should not be let off the lead immediately in a new home. This needs to be built up gradually over time in a safe, secure environment, as rushing this process would be unsafe.

Monty is friendly with other dogs and enjoys their company, so he could potentially live with another well-socialised dog, provided introductions are done carefully and the match is suitable.

His Ideal Home

Monty would be best suited to an active home that can meet his physical and mental exercise needs. He is a lively boy who will thrive with owners who enjoy walking, training and spending time outdoors.

He could live with:

  • Children aged 12 years and over who are confident around larger, energetic dogs.

  • A well-socialised, friendly dog following successful introductions.

  • He has not been socialised with cats, so a cat-free home would be most suitable.

Grooming Requirements

As a wire-haired Lurcher, Monty will require regular grooming to keep his coat in good condition. His coat will need brushing a few times a week to remove loose hair and prevent matting, along with occasional hand-stripping or professional grooming as needed to maintain coat health and texture. Routine checks of ears, nails and overall hygiene will also be important as part of his care routine.

Health

Monty is in great health and has no known medical concerns.

What Monty Needs

Monty will need:

  • An active home with plenty of daily exercise.

  • Ongoing lead training and positive reinforcement.

  • Continued recall training in safe, secure areas.

  • A secure garden or access to safe outdoor spaces.

  • Regular grooming and coat maintenance.

  • Patience, consistency and time to mature into adulthood.

  • A calm, structured routine to help him settle and learn good manners.

Monty is a bright, energetic and affectionate young dog who has had a bit of a confusing start but is now ready for the right home to guide him through the next stage of his life. With the right training, structure, grooming care and plenty of exercise, he will make a fantastic and loyal companion.
