Rossi & Buck – Bonded Ex-Racing Greyhound Boys Looking for a Home Together ❤️
Rossi, our handsome brindle boy, and his best mate Buck are hoping that their forever home might be together. 🥰
When Rossi and Buck first arrived at the centre, we initially separated them into different kennels to see how they would cope independently. It soon became very clear that Rossi had other ideas! He was howling and crying for his friend Buck, and it was heartbreaking to see just how much he was missing him.
So, of course, we put them back together — and the difference was incredible. They were happy, settled and content simply being alongside each other. It became very obvious that these two boys have a special friendship, and we would love to find them a home where they can continue life together.
❤️ Meet Rossi
Rossi is our outgoing, affectionate brindle boy who absolutely adores his cuddles. He loves people and is always happy to enjoy some attention and affection. He has a lovely, gentle nature and is very much the more confident of the two.
💙 Meet Buck
Buck is the shyer of the pair, but he is every bit as sweet. He can take a little more time to feel comfortable, but once he does, his lovely personality really shines through. Although he’s slightly more reserved he is a very gentle boy, he’s incredibly cute with it!
Having Rossi by his side clearly gives Buck confidence, and we feel that their relationship is something really special. They complement each other beautifully.
🏁 Life as Ex-Racing Greyhounds
Both Rossi and Buck have previously been used for racing, so their new family will need to understand that life as a pet can be very different from life in a racing kennel.
Greyhounds are often described as gentle, sensitive and affectionate dogs. They can be surprisingly laid-back in the home and are frequently very happy to spend a large part of the day relaxing on a comfy bed. Despite their incredible speed, they are sprinters rather than endurance athletes and generally don't need hours and hours of exercise.
They will still need daily walks and opportunities to explore, sniff and enjoy being dogs, but their exercise should be appropriate for the breed. A couple of sensible walks combined with time to relax, enrichment and companionship can be ideal.
Greyhounds can also be sensitive souls. They may need time to adjust to household life, and adopters should be prepared to introduce new experiences gradually and positively.
🐇 Prey Drive & Safety
As ex-racing Greyhounds, prey drive must be taken seriously. Greyhounds were bred to chase, and many have an instinct to pursue small, fast-moving animals.
This means Rossi and Buck will need to be kept securely contained and on lead in areas that aren't safely enclosed. They should never be allowed off lead somewhere where they could run after another animal and disappear before anyone has a chance to react.
A secure, fully enclosed garden is an important consideration for their new home, giving them somewhere safe to enjoy a little freedom.
They may also not be suitable to live with cats or other small animals, depending on their individual assessment and circumstances.
🏡 What Their Forever Home Needs to Understand
Rossi and Buck are looking for someone who understands the needs of ex-racing Greyhounds and is prepared to give them time to adjust to their new life.
Their home should provide:

🛏️ Comfortable, supportive beds where they can properly relax.
🚶 Daily, sensible exercise rather than excessive physical activity.
🌳 A securely fenced garden.
🐾 Careful management around small animals due to potential prey drive.
🥰 Plenty of affection, patience and companionship.
🧠 Gentle enrichment and opportunities to learn about all the things that may be completely new to them.
🔒 Safe, secure walking equipment and sensible precautions around doors, gates and open spaces.
Greyhounds can be wonderfully easy-going companions, but their speed and chase instinct mean secure management is essential.
🥰 Two Boys, One Forever Home
What really matters to us with Rossi and Buck is that they have each other.
We tried separating them, and Rossi made it very clear that he wasn't happy without his best mate. Once reunited, they settled beautifully, and seeing them together just felt right.
Rossi brings the confidence, cuddles and enthusiasm, while Buck is the quieter, shyer boy who clearly takes comfort from having Rossi beside him.
They have both spent part of their lives racing, and now we would love nothing more than for them to discover the other side of Greyhound life — soft beds, leisurely walks, plenty of love and, most importantly, each other. ❤️
